Civil Engineering Department was started with intake strength of 60 students in the academic year 2008. Intake was enhanced to 90 in the next academic year. Post graduate program in Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering was started in the academic year 2010. The department is having nine different laboratories. The department is equipped with advanced and sophisticated equipments like Total Station, 400KN and 1000KN Universal Testing Machine, 2000KN compression testing machine, triaxial and consolidation testing units. Computer lab is having licensed softwares like NISA civil, Autocad education etc. which the students can use for analysis, design & drawing of structures. Civil Engineering Association has been established so that the students can take part in these association activities and enrich their technical knowledge and also improve their confidence level through addressing, gathering, group discussions.
Civil Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering discipline extending across many technical specialties. The career options in this discipline include planning, designing and supervising the construction activities which are required for providing essentials to modern life. The scope of this discipline includes buildings, bridges, water supply and waste water treatment, irrigation and hydrology, marine structures, tunnels, highways, airports, space satellite and launching facilities - each vary widely in nature and size to create infrastructure requirement for the need of the society. Experts from different parts of the state have prepared the curriculum, which is taught in the course is well planned and provides knowledge in diversified areas such as structural engineering, surveying, geotechnical engineering, water resources and environmental engineering, transportation engineering, ocean and coastal engineering and construction engineering etc. A graduate from this discipline can become an entrepreneur or serve Government/ Private agency/ R&D organization to serve the nation.

Basic material testing laboratory introduces to the students, the testing procedure of materials used in the civil engineering discipline like - cement, aggregate, concrete, steel timber, bricks and tl The need for compliance with current standards and specifications for materials is also stressed in the course le etc. The equipments are used to understand the practical behavior of the materials evaluating the physical properties, mechanical properties; suitability of material for use in construction, material selection code provisions, etc, this knowledge is of paramount importance in order to establish the relationship between material properties and the overall behavior of a structure. The need for compliance with current standards and specifications for materials will be understood through tests on materials
The Surveying laboratory aids in the developments of fundamental laboratory on land surveying to civil engineering students. Laboratory compraises of instruments for distance measurements and for measuring heights of the objects. Laboratory aims with the purpose of enabling students to practice land surveying techniques, using a wide spectrum of surveying equipments ranging from chains compass, traditional levels, Transits and Theodolites to latest electronic Total satiations
Engineering Geology deals with the application of geologic sciences to engineering practice for the purpose of assuring that the geologic factors affecting the location, design ,construction ,operation and maintenance of civil engineering structures. Engineering geologists investigate and provide recommendations on the character of the geology of the area for engineering analysis and design. The geology laboratory comprise of samples of minerals, stones and models of folds/faults, earthquake etc. A coarse work laboratory trains civil engineering students in identification procedures of minerals and stones and study of geological maps.
The laboratory is equipped with a number of equipment and experimental setups to study the fundamental and applied aspects of hydraulics and hydraulic machines. The setups are used for calibration of flow measuring devices used in channels and pipes. Measurements of critical Performance parameters like efficiency, flow rate etc of various hydraulic machines such as turbines, pumps are also measured in this lab. The equipment is operated in a closed loop system which conserves water and averts the need for large quantities of water supply.
Computer softwares are used in all disciplines for various applications. Likewise in civil engineering field also various softwares are used for many applications like Surveying, Analysis, Designing and Drawing, Quantity calculations, and costing . etc. of civil engineering structures. In CAD Lab two softwares are available namely Auto CAD Education Suite (which comprises of eleven softwares) used for various applications like Drafting, Modeling, Quantity estimation .etc and NISA Civil software for Analysis and Designing. Laboratory also comprises of forty computer systems with latest configuration.
In many engineering problems such as design of foundation, retaining walls, slabs, bridges, piles, sheet piling- the value of the internal friction, cohesion of the soil, particle size are required for the evaluation of the strength and deformation characteristic as well as permeability characteristics of the soil media. High rise buildings and other infrastructures, seismic resistance buildings, industrial structures are to be designed within the permissible settlement values and within permissible bearing capacities. The laboratory is equipped with the instruments to ascertain the aforesaid soil properties
